Gauge: 16 sts = 4” using larger hook. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the specified gauge.
Special Abbreviations:
Foundation single crochet (Fsc): Ch 2, insert hook in 2nd chain from hook and pull up a loop (ch stitch made) *yo and pull through 2 loops on hook (sc made), insert hook in ch stitch and pull up a loop; repeat from * for as many Fsc as called for in pattern.
Cluster stitch: *Yo, insert hook in next st and pull up a loop, yo and draw through 2 loops on hook; repeat from * 4 times more, yo and draw through all 6 loops on hook.

Instructions:
CAPE: With larger hook, Fsc 96 sts.
Row 1 (Right Side): Ch 1, turn, sc in first Fsc, *ch 3, skip 3 Fsc, sc in next Fsc; repeat from * across – 24 ch-3 spaces.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first sc, *ch 3, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * across.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in first sc *ch 3, sc in next sc; repeat from * across – 48 ch-3 spaces.
Rows 4-11: Repeat Row 3.
Row 12: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first sc, *ch 3, sc in next sc, ch 3, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * across.
Rows 13-30: Repeat Row 3 – 74 ch-3 spaces.
Row 31: Ch 1, turn, sc in first sc, *2 sc in ch-3 space, sc in next sc; repeat from * across – 223 sc.
Row 32: Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), turn, 2 dc in first sc, skip 2 sc, sc in next sc, *skip next 2 sc, 5 dc in next sc, skip next 2 sc, sc in next sc; repeat from * across to last 3 sc, skip 2 sc, 3 dc in last sc – 36 5-dc groups.
Row 33: Ch 1, turn, sc in first dc, *ch 2, work cluster stitch, ch 2, sc in next dc; repeat from * across – 37 clusters.
Row 34: Ch 3, turn, 2 dc in first sc, sc in next cluster stitch, *5 dc in next sc, sc in next cluster stitch; repeat from * across to last sc, 3 dc in last sc.
Row 35: Repeat Row 33.
Row 36: Ch 3, turn, 3 dc in first sc, sc in next cluster stitch, *7 dc in next sc, sc in next cluster stitch; repeat from * across to last sc, 4 dc in last sc.



 Edging: With wrong side facing and smaller hook, join yarn at left bottom edge and sc 182 sts evenly up left front edge, across neck edge and down right edge of Cape.
Row 1: Ch 1, turn, sc in first sc, *skip next sc, 5 dc in next sc, skip next sc, sc in next sc; repeat from * across.
Fasten off.
Sew button to top neck edge of Cape.
Weave in ends.

small crochet flowers

1. Leave long tail (18-24”) and chain 17  Figure A
2. Skip first space and sc into second space from hook, * ch1 (skipping a space) and sc into next space.  Repeat from* till end.  This will give you 8 holes or spaces  Figure B and Figure C
3. Turn, into the first three spaces crochet 3sc and 1sl st giving you 3 petals
4. Into the next 4 spaces crochet 3hdc and 1sl st giving you 4 more petals
5. Into the last space (the very tip) crochet 1hdc, 2sc and 1sl st.  Fasten off leaving short tail (approx. 4-6”)  Figure D
6. Insert long tail into embroidery needle and begin to wind up petals to create the rosette.  Stitch together at the bottom as you go along.  I recommend stitching after your first three petals are rounded and then for every additional petal placement so that you can control exactly what your flower will look like.  Figure E1 & E2
7. Secure with knot when done and leave tails to secure to finished piece.  I use both tails to secure and tie them together and then use the long tail to tack the rosette into place.  Weave in ends and cut short when done.  Figure F

Crocheted flowers

Round1. Chain 3 and slip stitch in the first chain to make a loop.
Working in this loop Chain 3 which represents your first treble.Work 11 more trebles and slip stitch in initial chain.(total of 12 trebles)

Round2. Chain 4 . Double Crochet in next 2 spaces.Chain 4 ,Double crochet in next 2spaces. Continue in this manner around the flower until you have worked 6 little loops.
Slip stitch into your first loop so that you start the last round in the right place.

Round3. Work 1 Double Crochet ,1 Half Treble, 1Treble, 1 Half Treble! 1Double Crochet in each of the 6 loops.to complete the round slip stitch into the initial base of the chain 3 and you have it!

Once you have worked your first flower the others are a variation on a theme.

The Light PInk Flower is worked as follows..
Work Round 1 in exactly the same way making 12 trebles in the initial loop.

Round2. Work 5 chains to make each of the 6 loops.

Round 3. Work.1 Double Crochet . 1 Half Crochet. 1 Treble 1 chain 1 Treble,1 Half Crochet, 1 Double Crochet in each of the loops.

The Purple Flower. Only the chain loops and final row change.

Work 6 chains to make each loop and decorate the loop with 1 Double Crochet. 2 Half Crochets, 2 Trebles 1 chain 2 Trebles, 2 half Crochets and 1 Double Crochet.

I am sure by now you are itching to try your own variations. The orange flower has bigger loops with more decorative stitches in each loop. And a little picot tip on tip of each petal would be so pretty.

So when you have made a whole bunch of these flowers the next step is to think what lovely things you could make. Ravelry and Pinterest are both a wonderful source of ideas and inspiration. I have so far made book marks and brooches with them. Most of all I have had fun working new designs. I hope you do too.

Ripple afghan

Chain a multiple of 16 stitches plus 2 stitches.
For a 40 inch wide afghan in worsted weight yarn, chain 130.
For a 55 inch wide afghan in worsted weight yarn, chain 178.
For a 41 inch wide afghan in sport weight/3-ply yarn, chain 178.
Row 1: Dc in 3rd ch from hook; dc in next 6 ch, 3 dc in next ch, dc in next 6 ch; *work 3 st dec in next 3 ch, dc in next 6 ch, 3 dc in next ch, dc in next 6 ch; Repeat from * across. End by working 2 st dec in last 2 ch. Ch 2 and turn.
Note: The valleys will probably be shallower than the peaks at this point. Work another row or two and they should even up.
Row 2: Skip first stitch; dc in next 7 dc, 3 dc in next dc, dc in next 6 dc; *work 3 st dec in next 3 stitches, dc in next 6 dc, 3 dc in next dc, dc in next 6 dc; Repeat from * across. End by working 2 st dec in last 2 dc. Ch 2 and turn.
Repeat Row 2 until afghan is desired length changing, colors as desired. If you are using more than one color of yarn, I suggest changing colors every 2 rows.

Changing colors

At end of row, when working the 2 st dec, drop the current color of yarn when you have the last 3 loops left on your hook to finish the stitch. Yarn over with new color of yarn and pull through 3 loops on hook. Ch 2 and turn.
Leave 5 or 6 inch ends of each color of yarn to weave in.

Finishing

Weave all yarn ends in securely.

Variation 1 - Ribbed Ripple:

Ch 19

Foundation Row: In the 4th chain from the hook, work dc, ch 1, dc in the same ch. *Skip two chains and work dc, ch 1, dc in the same ch.  Repeat 3 more times from * to end, then in the last ch, work 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc in the same ch.

Row 1: Turn, ch 3 and work dc, ch 1, dc in each of the chain 1 spaces from the previous row (center of each "V").  At the end of the row, finish with a dc in the last space (ch 3 turning space).

Repeat row 1 until neckwarmer is desired length.

Finishing:

Weave in ends and you're all finished!  Sew buttons with placing them as shown.

crochet necklace

Materials:
Less than one ball of any colour cotton yarn (worsted weight)
4.00mm hook

Necklace:
Ch77, sc in second ch from hook and in the next 3chs.
Ch76, sc in the 4th ch at the beg of previous ch loop, and in next 3chs, ch1, turn.
Sc in first sc and in next 3 sc, ch80, sc in the 4 sc at the beg of previous row, ch1, turn.
Sc in first sc and in next 3 sc, ch84, sc in the 4 sc at the beg of previous row, ch3 and sl st on the other side of the same closure piece to make a button hole.
Sew a button on the opposite closure piece of the button hole.
Make a flower of any kind (mines are just improvised!) to embellish the necklace, and sew it on the four chains strands.

Microwave divinity

This divinity is so easy to make in the microwave and so good. You won’t ever make it any other way again!  Makes a great gift, too.

2 cups white sugar

1/3 cup water

1/3 cup light corn syrup

1/4 teaspoon salt

2 egg whites

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup pecans or nuts of your choice, chopped

 

Combine sugar, water, corn syrup and salt in a glass casserole dish.  Cover with saran wrap and microwave on high for 5 minutes. Remove from microwave and take off saran wrap. Stir well and return to microwave uncovered.  Cook on high for another 4 to 5 minutes until reaches hard ball stage when a little is dropped in cold water.  Remove and cool about 4 minutes.  Beat egg whites until stiff with mixer.  Pour sugar mixture over egg whites beating constantly with mixer until mixture starts to lose its gloss and holds together.  About 4 or 5 minutes.  Stir in vanilla and nuts.  Drop by teaspoonful onto wax paper.  Makes about 25 pieces depending on size you make them.  Enjoy!
